ACADEMY OF DENTAL MATERIALS

MEMBERS-AT-LARGE
Proposal for recruitment of new Board Members-at-Large (MAL)
Definition: Members-at-Large (MALs) are typically the entry position of a member joining the ADM Board. There are six MAL positions on the Board, each with voting rights. MALs serve a 4-year term that cannot be renewed. However, after completing their term, a MAL may subsequently serve on other elected board positions.
The purpose of MAL’s positions are to promote the Academy within their regions, attract new members, serve on Board committees by appointment at the discretion of the president, and assist in organizing ADM Annual meetings, potentially serving as local organizers if the event is near their location. As voting members, MALs are decision-makers for the future of the Academy and are expected to represent the broader ADM community.
Requirements: A candidate for MAL position must:
Be active or fellow member in good standing with the Academy for at least ten (10) continuous years.
Have attended at least five (5) of the past ten (10) ADM Annual meetings.
Additional criteria – candidates should:
Have demonstrated active participation in the academy (Presenter, Program chair, moderator, lunch and learn presenter, committee participation).
Have shown leadership ability and experience in other national or international organizations.
Be considered for their strategic benefits to ADM (e.g.,geographic, gender, minority representation)
Application: Candidates must submit:
1. A short 2-page CV (bio-sketch), highlighting their credentials, current position and scholarly activities related to Dental Materials.
2. A one-page statement outlining how they envision contributing to the Academy if selected as a MAL (see definition above).
3. Endorsement in writing from two other ADM fellows
Review process: When MAL positions become available, nominations will be invited from the ADM membership. Submissions should be addressed to the Secretary of the ADM at least 60 days prior to the announced deadline. Nominations will be evaluated and vetted by the fellowship committee, based on their potential contributions to the Board in its mission and promotion of the Academy among members and externally. The committee will then recommend a slate of candidates to the board for approval. The slate of candidates should be greater than the number of vacancies. New members-at-large will be elected by the general membership via electronic voting.
A candidate who is not selected in a specific year will remain in the candidate pool for three (3) more years. Any candidate is welcome to re-apply anytime with an updated CV and endorsement if desired.
Confirmed new MALs will begin their term at the official announcement during the Annual Business Meeting.
